Someone like me competition
The children in 5th class won the senior category in the Someone like me competition for Leitrim. The competition was created to nurture more positive attitudes towards persons with disabilities. There was some tough competition and the competition attracted 2500 submissions nationally. The children are all delighted to have won the competition and some members of our class will be selected in a draw to go to the National awards ceremony in Dublin in January. The children came up with some fantastic ideas and Aoife in our class submitted this incredibly thoughtful piece of writing to go with the piece of art in the photos.
“Here in Four Masters, we don’t care if people look different, like different things or believe other religions. People shouldn’t be judged by how they look or how they think. That’s why we loved the idea of Someone Like Me. We have a huge masterpiece made by lots of clever, creative students. It includes pictures of Bethany Hamilton, people with disabilities on the moon, girls with disabilities dancing, wheelchair basketball, blind football, a person with no arms winning a cycling race, wheelchair ramping and a person with no legs climbing a mountain.
Our brilliant artists are really proud of what they have done. We worked a whole week improving and creating amazing ideas, and we have put them all together and they look absolutely brilliant! We used all sorts of materials such as coloured and normal pencils, paint and markers. There are lots of details that make it look impressive and everybody was super happy with the end result. The whole class helped and everyone was working harder than they ever had before. Nine pieces of art and 100% effort. We are proud to be us and we hope you are too! Thank you for reading! Goodbye!
