RNLI Mayday mile fundraiser and tour of the Bundoran Lifeboat station
On Thursday the 5th of May,6th class in the Four Masters school participated in a tour of the RNLI station in Bundoran. The children saw the boat and the tractor and were told about all the technology and safety equipment that RNLI volunteers use when rescuing people at sea.
A member of the crew got into their PPE and the children were instructed in how to use a throwbag to rescue somebody if they were drowning. The children were also told about ripcurrents ,cold water shock and the RNLIs “Float to live” campaign. The talk was given by local RNLI volunteers Killian O'Kelly and Ashley Vaughan.
The children also participated in the Mayday mile fundraiser for the RNLI. The children walked a mile from the Westend in Bundoran to the lifeboat station. The children raised an amazing €475 for the RNLI. All of this money will go toward buying and maintaining equipment in the RNli.
The RNLi were very appreciative of the fundraiser and local volunteers came in to thank the children and collect the money on Friday.
